"For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy."
Everything has been created by Him, and hence, we are created by Him. But we see daily that the created owes itself to the creator. It is under the dominion of the creator.
Consider that I, for instance, cook and fantastic meal of lasagna and vegetables and chocolate cake for dessert for my wife Jenni (hard to believe I know - but we're imagining here :). That meal is under my dominion. If my neighbour comes over, sits down and starts eating, I'm going to look at him really funny and probably ask him to leave since the meals I make for Jenni are few and far between! He would not have the right to do what he pleases with the meal I made because the meal is under my control. The principle here is that the created belongs to the creator. The creator can do what he wants with his creations.
Now stretch your imagination a bit further and imagine the meal deciding for itself that it wanted to be eaten by my neighbour. Besides being very cruel, since I intended to surprise my wife with that meal, it would be wrong. The meal is mine! The other thing to note is that the meal doesn't know what's best for it. I know when I created it the joy it would bring my wife. The meal would be best satisfied by fulfilling its purpose in creation.
We are the same. Being created by God, we have a specific purpose in creation. We may not, however, understand that purpose all the time. We may not see the joy in it or want to do it. But we ought to for two reasons: 1) we are created by God and owe it to Him as our creator, and 2) it is in our best interest to follow His purpose since we will be most fulfilled in it.
So as the created of the most glorious Creator we ought to follow His purpose for us! It is the most rewarding and best thing for us. As this declaration points out, this purpose is bringing glory to God. We will look into that in future posts.

Daws... I have to say, I like your meal analogy.
Adding to its credibility: it doesn't stretch the imagination much to think that your meal-esque concoctions could actually develop consciousness. :)
Cool blog! Feel free to donate chocolate cake anytime. :P

I tried starting a blog once ... it didn't really pan out for me. But I wish you better luck. And I really like the content.
